COLUSA PROJECT
Set in a beautiful North Berkeley neighborhood with an eclectic blend of Craftsman, Prairie, and Deco style homes, the Owners of this house wanted to add space without compromising its unique character. Our approach was to add space “down under” by digging out a lower level. Fundamental to the approach was extending the bow-windowed parlor – a distinctive feature of the house -- down to the new lower level giving the house a prominent, two-storey expression facing the street. This project involved extensive excavation and foundation work to add a master bedroom suite and private garden below. The remodel also focused on the kitchen, dining, and outdoor patio areas of the main floor upstairs. Simple materials used with special attention to the details satisfy the Owners’ desire for a contemporary feel.
